For the past year we have had the privilege of documenting PROGRESS Wrestling, the trials and tribulations of running a wrestling promotion as well as their wrestlers and fans.
Our producer/director, Dale Beaumont-Brown has wanted to make a wrestling documentary ever since seeing 'Beyond The Mat', but there hasn't been the right story. It needed to have a British identity, and then PROGRESS popped onto Dale's compass like a lightbulb!
In getting to grips with the story of PROGRESS we have focused our attention on answering the following question: who is PROGRESS? To us it is 3 fold.:The wrestlers, in the form of former PROGRESS champion and dad extraordinaire, Mark Haskins. The fans, as represented by PROGRESS ultra and super-fan Paul Lee. And also the promoters themselves, Jim Smallman, Jon Briley and Glen Joseph.
We wanted to make this documentary available to you for free because we wanted to prove to film, and wrestling fans alike that we're capable of producing an insightful, emotive and unique documentary about a wrestling promotion.
We also have eyes on the bigger prize too which is to produce a feature-length documentary following the story of PROGRESS further, up to and including their 5th anniversary in 2017. Not to mention their involvement in the WWN, 'More Than Mania' event in the lead up to Wrestlemania weekend in Orlando, Florida.
To enable us to achieve this we are running a Kickstarter campaign in May 2017 to cover the costs of the rest of the film. Bigger than that though, it is to enable film and wrestling fans alike a chance to take ownership over a film that is being made for you. Whether you're a wrestling/PROGRESS fan or not.
For now though, enjoy the film we have so loved making. Share it around with your friends, family, grandparents and people who are on the fence about wrestling. We made it for you. So enjoy!
